ket holders for more than 43 years. She enjoyed watching (and critiquing) the marching band and the Redsteppers at every football game. She had hoped to see I-69 completed in her lifetime. Charlotte spent many years of her mid-life playing golf and tennis in her spare time. She fueled her competitive spirit in later years playing croquet. She played in tournaments in the Hamptons (NY), Merion (PA), Greenwich (CT), Chatooga (NC), Palm Beach (FL) and across the country. She was a passionate advocate for the sport. Teaching her grandchildren how to play was always a special time for her, as was her tournament win with her son-in-law Rob as her partner. She was a member of the US National Croquet Association and the National Croquet Center in Palm Beach, Florida. She also loved playing bridge and enjoyed many an afternoon playing with her friends at Meridian Hills Country Club, Country Club of Florida and the Ocean Club of Florida. She was a lifelong reader and learner and took the time to read several newspapers each day. Charlotte also had a giving and charitable spirit. She was a dedicated volunteer with St. Margaret's Hospital Guild and the Day Nursery Association of Indianapolis for many years. She was also particularly devoted to and made numerous charitable donations to the beautification of the City of Springfield, St. Catharine College, St. Dominic's School and many other worthy causes. She was a devoted mother and a shining example of grace, elegance, strength, perseverance and fun. She is survived by six children, Mark Hapak, Susan Hapak, F. Haydon Hapak (Claudia), Tracy Hapak Schick (Rob), Madeline Hapak and Holly Hapak Betz (Kevin). She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, whom she loved and adored. She cherished her time with them, and would often save their personal notes to read and read again for many months. She was delighted that she could celebrate her 90 wonderful years of life with them last December. Charlotte is predeceased by her parents, George Robertson Haydon and Charlotte Wall Simms Haydon, her sister Mary Jane Klausing (Robert), her brothers, George Robertson Haydon, Jr. and Benjamin Simms Haydon, and her daughter Charlotte Shaut (Mark). She also is survived by her brothers Ryan Duffy Haydon and Lloyd Haydon. The family would like to recognize the Ray family for their extraordinary friendship, especially Charlie Ray, Mary Agnes Ray Brown, Sarah Ray and Rosemary Brown. As Charlie and Charlotte said to each other just a few days ago, "What would we do without each other?" We can never adequately express our deep appreciation for all they have done. The funeral and burial will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Leppert Mortuary. Condolences to the family may be made at www.leppertmortuary.com.
