rida every winter to visit friends. Marla and His plan was to spend all winter in Florida after retirement. He cherished spending time with his granddaughters and giving them rides on the golf cart. He was anxiously waiting for the birth of his grandson so he could buy him his first .410. Hunting was another passion of his with his son and longtime hunting buddies.
Dan's memory will be cherished by his wife of over 25 years, Marla Thomas of Oskaloosa; a daughter and her husband, Alicia and Brad Cartwright of Monroe; a son, Cody Thomas of Oskaloosa; two granddaughters, Bradyn and Avery Cartwright; a grandson due soon; his mother, Lois Thomas of Oskaloosa; two brothers, Bill (Deb) Thomas of Albia and Terry (Crick) Thomas of Eddyville; a sister, Jean (Gary) Herr of Fremont; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-8 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Hogs for Dogs or American Cancer Society.
