arl began to plant crops, harvest them, and pray over them. Baby calves were born in the spring and weaned in the fall, pigs were farrowed and lambs were bottle-fed. The growing seasons passed and a life was built. The farm was not the only thing growing, the family grew as well. Four more sons, and a daughter would join them. As the family increased in size, the house did not. The saying: "love grows best in little houses" was most certainly true on the Bennett farm. When the children began to get older, Carl wasted no time teaching them to value hard work. Many memories were made, and lots of lessons were learned. Milking cows in the early morning, raking and baling hay in the hot summer sun and so many other jobs on the farm. Carl particularly enjoyed helping his children to raise and show animals for 4-H.
Carl had a love for people and a generous spirit. It was often Evelyn who made it possible for him to be so generous. Carl loved to share meals with others, a full dinner table made him happy. He would often invite friends, or neighbors, or even strangers over at a moment's notice. It was Evelyn who was then charged with feeding a crowd using a pot roast and too few potatoes.
Carl and Evelyn retired after 40 years of farming and moved to Corydon in 1995. Carl was never one to sit still for long so he took over his son's mowing business as a retirement project. When mowing did not keep him busy enough he got just a "few" cattle for good measure. On June 2nd, 2017, Carl and Evelyn were blessed to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. Carl was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for his whole life.
