were married September 24, 1999. They built a home together in Unionville, Iowa and it was the home she had always dreamed of. She enjoyed planting flowers to brighten her porch, decorating every spare nook and cranny of her house with bling, and having family gatherings around her big dining room table. She enjoyed a good broach, gardening, canning, sharing recipes with family (she was the best cook!), General Hospital, camping, spending time on the boat with Paul and Thursday nights in Drakesville with her friends.
Darlene went back to school at Graceland University and earned her Bachelor of Arts in 2000. She started teaching Special Education at Newtown-Harris School in Newtown, MO, and found her passion was helping young people receive the best education and reach their dreams. She retired from teaching in 2011, and spent her new found spare time driving Amish and spoiling her beloved grandchildren.
Christmas was a special time for Darlene and she always pulled out all the stops! Her Christmas village alone was a sight to behold, and her bow collection was unrivaled. She possessed the magic only a mother has, and because of this her adult children still believe in Santa Claus.
Darlene was quick with a joke and not above trying to pull one over on unsuspecting friends, but do not be fooled, her dark side made her a formidable dice opponent! Afterward she would quickly console the losers, and slip effortlessly back into the sweet, loveable, caring, and beautiful woman she always was.
Darlene was a wonderful mother, and was always ready to offer any help and kindness she could. Through the years she treated many young people as her children and helped them navigate into successful adulthood.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Paul Ewing of Unionville, Iowa; daughters: Sara Brown of Des Moines, Elizabeth Conn of Centerville, Katie McDanel (Bryan) of Monroe, Sheila Guitter (Jeremy) of Oskaloosa, and Carrie Ewing of Chillicothe, MO; grandchildren: Jeffery and Ellen McDanel, Andy, Danny (Sydney) and Lani Guitter, Marcus and Maurice Brown, Michael and Matthew Cappell, and Mya Robles; great grandchildren: Gable and Briella Guitter, Koveean Devore and Myles Brown; siblings: Ilene Clevenger (Herbert), and Jim Jimerson as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Barbara Marsh.
