Doris Richtsmeier, 95, of Iowa Falls and formerly of Hampton, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at her home in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Hampton with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.
Doris passed away at her home in Iowa Falls on July 18th at the age of 95 surrounded by her children. Doris was born on February 18, 1922 in Ackley, Iowa, the eldest child of William and Esther Boyenga. She met the love of her life, Carl Richtsmeier while attending Geneva High School, from which she graduated in 1940. Doris was united in marriage with Carl at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on October 6, 1940. They celebrated 71 wonderful years of marriage before Carl passed away in January 2012. ined the Navy in 1944 Doris and their young son Ron moved back to Hampton to stay with her parents. After Carl came home from the war, Doris and he rolled up their sleeves and with the help of Doris' father built their home in Hampton, where they lived and raised their family for the next 64 years. Together they built and ran Richie's Drive-In on the south edge of Hampton from 1947-1953. Doris worked at Drierdale's Restaurant for many years, and later she and Carl took over and ran the Boyenga Motel for her parents. Doris' life was spent focusing on her family. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church, Mother's Club and S.O.S. Club. In 2007 Doris and Carl moved to Oak Terrace in Iowa Falls. Doris had a kind and adventurous spirit with a wonderful sense of humor and a huge love of life. She loved flowers, chocolate, watching the birds on her deck, crossword puzzles, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, crocheting baby blankets, connecting with friends and family on her computer, and most of all traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. Doris is survived by her son Ron Richtsmeier and his wife Judie of San Antonio, Texas and her three daughters Judy Schwab and husband Mike of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rhonda Richtsmeier and husband Sam Johnson of Soldotna, Alaska, and Debbie Sietsema and husband Randy of Iowa Falls, Iowa; six grandchildren Chad Schwab (Sarah) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Cory Schwab (Rachael) of Denver, Colorado, Stacy Dreessen (Joel) of Parker, Colorado, Scott Sietsema of Iowa Falls, Todd Sietsema (Adriane) of Iowa Falls, Brooke Arends (Kohle) of Dike, Iowa; and seven great-grandchildren, Colin, Aiden and Talon Schwab, Dylan and Kyla Dreessen, Dagny Schwab, and Jack Sietsema; brother Marvin Boyenga of Mason City, sister LaVonne Hansen of Hampton, and sister-in-law Marian Johnson of Hampton.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Carl.
