Ed Griffith, age 80, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Marcia Cline officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial with military rites by American Legion Sergy Post 98 will be in Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association. Robert Edward Griffith was born in Villisca, Iowa on July 13, 1937, the son of Robert Lloyd Griffith and Dora Ida (Bean) Simmons. He had three half brothers, John, Bill and Kenny Harrell. As a boy he lived for a time in Houser Lake, Idaho with his grandparents, Herman and Cecil Boyden. He returned to the Midwest where he finished high school in Clarinda, Iowa. wa. They had four children, Edward, Brenda, John and Steve Griffith. After Myrna's death he married Sandra Liner on August 22, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ed joined the Navy in 1955 where he was deployed six times to the Eastern Pacific, worked at the Pentagon and was deployed twice to Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in 1974 as Senior Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy he worked as an electrician and then as head maintenance in the Clarinda School district. Upon retiring from the Clarinda School district he was a salesman for Century Labs out of Kansas City, Missouri. Once he really decided to retire he enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and volunteering at the hospital as a greeter. He also enjoyed golfing, listening to music and he loved fishing, especially in Orange Beach, Alabama. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents and wife Myrna Griffith. Left to cherish memories of a wonderful husband, Dad, soldier and friend are his wife, Sandra Liner of Clarinda, Iowa; children, Edward (Sandy) Griffith of Shellrock, Iowa, Brenda (Fred) Lisle of Clarinda, Iowa, John (Brenda) Griffith of North Bend, Washington, Steven (Heather) Griffith of Maryville, Missouri; step daughter, Nancy (Glen) Touchet of Kaplan, Louisiana; grandchildren, Edwin (Anna) Lisle, Andrew (Megan) Lisle, Rosalyn (Zach) Maxwell, Samuel Griffith and Shana Sommerfeldt, Johnathan Griffith and Shanna Sheppard, Alexander Griffith and Dana Gutierrez, Natalie and Evan Griffith; step grandchildren Sam and Max Ripley, Logan and Tucker Touchet, Luke and Brody Boyd; great grandchildren, Frederick, Lucas, Wyatt Lisle, Allison, Leah Griffith, Johnathan Griffith; many other relatives and friends that loved Ed.
