Marvin T. Schares, 78, of Gilbertville, died Wednesday, August 16, at Covenant Medical Center. He was born April 4, 1939, in Gilbertville, the son of Joseph and Mary Welter Schares. He married Nancy Oldfather on October 23, 1965 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Evansdale. Marvin served in the United States Army and was employed with Youngblut Construction for forty years. Survivors include: his wife, Nancy of Gilbertville; four sons, Joey of Gilbertville, James of Haven, Fla, Jason (Maranda) of Independence, and Justin (Allison Poock) of Waterloo; three daughters, Tina (Jim) Donnelly of Council Bluffs, Tammy (Chad) Bedard of Raymond, and Tracy (Scott) Smith of Muncie, Ind.; fourteen grandchildren, James and Jessica Donnelly, Schuler, Carter, Brooklynn Schares, Baylor and Tatum Bedard, Madison, Gage, Sawyer, Cooper Smith, Savannah, Kaden, Avery Schares; two brothers, Henry (Dolores) of Washburn and Lester (Marge Ihde) of Gilbertville; two sisters, Marcie McCardle of Independence and Marie (Gene) Hestness of Mason City. ption Catholic Church with burial in Sancta Maria Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Full military rites will be conducted by the Gilbertville American Legion Nugent Demuth Post 714, assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, August 20, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary. Visitation also one hour prior to services Monday at the church. The casket will be closed at church. Memorials: may be directed to the family. Marv loved watching the Cubs, Vikings, and old westerns. He loved golfing, watching his grandchildren's sports, setting on his porch swing and a mean game of Rummy.
