f Master of Science in Anesthesiology from the University of Minnesota and was certified as a Specialist in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology. In 1963 he became an instructor in anesthesiology in the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He was a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the Minnesota State Medical Association, the Zumbro Valley Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Society of the Sigma Xi, the Alumni Association of the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, the Phi Kappa Psi academic fraternity and the Nu Sigma Nu professional medical fraternity. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, was the Chairman of the Committee on Anesthesia of the Minnesota State Medical Association, and was the President of the Minnesota Society of Anesthesiologists. He was also very proud of the Distinguished Clinician Award 1990-1991 presented by his peers in the Department of Anesthesiology. Besides Dr. Gould's many medical accomplishments, his greatest pride was his family. He loved bird watching, spending time at his Fillmore County tree farm, gardening , raising honey bees and volunteering his time by ringing a bell for the Salvation Army Red Kettle. He is survived by his children, Thomas (Kathi) Gould of Savage, MN, Catherine (Doug) Thoen of Rochester, Nancy Gould of Rochester, William Gould of Lanesboro, Jane Gould of Rochester and Ann LaFee of Aurora, IL; 8 grandchildren, Bryan (Anna) Thoen, Brent (Jessica) Thoen, Allan Gould III, Caitlin (Kyle) Hoover, Lauren Gould, Jennifer Petersen, Julia LaFee and Christian Gould; 5 great-grandchildren, Mason, Jackson, Carter, Lucas and Calvin Thoen and by his sister, Janet Gray of Aitkin, SC. He is also survived by his mutually adoring dogs, Gracie, Trixie , and Brisco. Allan was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Marilyn in 2004; his parents, Allan and Mildred and by his sister, Susan Stotzer. We, the family would like to thank all of the wonderful people who were involved in our dad's care over the years. A memorial service will be held 11:30am Monday, October 27, 2014 at Evangel United Methodist Church, 2645 North Broadway Ave., Rochester, MN 55901 with the Rev. Jeff Utecht officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until the time of the service. A private inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.
