Susan Marie Strom

Susan Marie Strom, 57, of Rochester, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born April 29, 1959 in Menomonee Falls, WI to George and Arlita (Lloyd) Fyksen. She was a 1977 graduate of Menomonee Falls North High School, where she was active in cheerleading, synchronized swimming, band, theater, and track and field. Sue was also crowned Menomonee Falls Junior Miss in 1977. After high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she also participated as a cheerleader, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design in 1981. Sue married Paul Strom of Rochester, MN in September of 1981. They raised their two children, Erika (1988) and Garrett (1995) as they lived in Plymouth, Sun Prairie, and Marshall WI, and Rochester MN. Throughout her long career, Sue worked as an Architectural Draftsperson / Interior Designer for Wilderness Log Homes of Plymouth, WI, the University of Wisconsin Madison, and the Mayo Clinic. loved wood carving and fishing with her dad at his summer cabin up north. Sue was a member of the Quilters Sew-ciety of Rochester. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, stamping, rug hooking, cross stitching, and all things arts and crafts. She was an American Colonial period enthusiast, loved cheering for her Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, and above all, Sue was a great hockey mom to both her children, Erika and Garrett. Sue is survived by her husband, Paul Strom of Shoreview, MN; children, Erika Strom and Garrett Strom both of Rochester; mother, Arlita Frantz of Brookfield, WI and significant other, Bill DeJung of Rochester, MN. Sue is also survived by her brothers, Greg (Shawn) Fyksen of Naperville, IL, Jim (Lanette) Fyksen of Sussex, WI, Steve (Kim Ready) Fyksen of Sarasota, FL; step-brother, Steve (Rebecca) Frantz of Brookfield, WI; step-sister, Linda (Andrew) Martin of WI and numerous nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her dad, George Fyksen; brother, Dennis Fyksen; Step-sister, Karen Frantz; step-dad, Kenneth Frantz and nephew, Christopher Fyksen. The Strom Family would like to thank all the family members, friends, neighbors, Sues support group, work colleagues at Mayo Clinic and Boston Scientific, and the John Marshall High School Hockey Community, that have helped in so many ways these past several years. Your support has been greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Evangel United Methodist Church 2645 N. Broadway Ave. Rochester, MN with the Rev. Phil Strom officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at a later date at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI.
