Alvina Pauline Helmers was born November 5th, 1921, on the family farm near Lu Verne, daughter of Fred August and Emelie (Gronbach) Pergande. She attended country school near Lu Verne and did domestic work prior to her marriage.
Alvina married Reiner Helmers on September 22, 1939, in Livermore. They made their home in Algona and she cleaned the Algona Public Libraries for 39 years. Alvina was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting at the church, gardening, fishing, and sewing.
Alvina P. Helmers died Sunday, September 3, 2017, at the Algona Manor Care Center at the age of 95. She had been a resident there since June of 2013.
She is survived by two sons, Edwin Helmers and his wife Judy of Algona, and Marlyn Helmers and his wife Ann of Algona; a daughter-in-law, Viola Helmers of Algona; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 5 siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 9th, 1986; an infant son Kasjen; a son, Max Helmers; and 7 siblings.
