On September 3, 2017 we lost our strong family matriarch, Sharon L Ruppal, at the young age of 75. We, her children, are heartbroken and so are all those who loved her.

She brought us into this world (and could take us out). She was our mother, our father, our teacher, our role model, our leader, and our compass. She stopped at nothing to protect and provide for us, single-handedly.

Her horse, Hickory, was probably her favorite child. Certainly, the only one that provided her with a frustration free relationship.

Her ironic demeanor made her hard to predict - she colored outside the lines but always followed the rules.

She rarely hated anything or anyone (unless you count peanut butter & jelly and macaroni & cheese) but strangely found herself the "Queen" of her biggest fear - tree frogs. Those tree frog screams where unmistakable. They were always where she was - on her doors, windows, car (inside & out), and even surrounding the porch at Tidewell Hospice, in Ellenton, the evening she left us.

She couldn't be rushed, but always taught us how to be ready for anything. She taught us so much more than we even realized. She taught us to be strong, independent thinkers, not to follow the crowd, and to question things that don't seem possible. She even taught us how to swim although never able to swim herself.

She was selfless and never asked for acknowledgement. If she asked for help, then she really needed it. She was independent and strong: mentally, spiritually, and physically. "That washing machine isn't going to move itself," and there it goes, in her hands, down the moving truck ramp without a dolly. "Don't think about it" was a solution to most of the pain we felt as children. Surprisingly strong advice that seemed so unhelpful at the time.

She was a beautiful woman that cannot possibly be summed up in a few paragraphs. She provided us with love, support, friendship, and was always our safe harbor.

Most people didn't know she was a licensed boat captain. Passing the course with a better grade than our father because he told her she couldn't pass at all. Many know she was an amazing self-taught cook, money saver, and organizer, who liked things clean.

Her wishes, upon her death, were simple and straightforward. Everything will be done as requested and no less.

If anything good could come from her rapid and aggressive form of carcinoma, it is a warning to all women over the age of 65. Be vigilant, continue Pap smears. Don't let outdated medical standards determine your health options. Question your providers and get second opinions.

Sharon leaves behind: Three children, Denise Ruppal of Palmetto, Michael Ruppal and his husband James Roth of Tampa, and John Ruppal of Bradenton. Two beautiful granddaughters, Brook Ruppal and Lia Ruppal of Bradenton. Her best friends, brother and sister in-law, Randy and Shelia VanWormer. And her beloved baby sister and her husband, Vickie and Larry Anthony. As well as three other siblings and nieces and nephews.

Sharon requested not to send flowers or "make a fuss". Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in her name or honor.
