that she knew he was it and they soon fell in love. Their sixty-four-year journey in marriage began June 6, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home and began their family in Illinois for a short while before returning to Sioux City and later Jefferson, SD until 1966 when they moved to a farm northwest of Le Mars. Joyce raised 11 children and helped on the farm, raising chickens, and gardening. She later began driving bus for Le Mars Community Schools which she did for 15 years.Joyce had a lifelong passion for learning and travel which led her to study at Teikyo-Westmar University. She studied languages, traveled internationally, unlike the traditional tourist she loved to immerse herself in other cultures so much so that she would dash off on her own leaving her group behind. She also had natural artistic talent and sketched her children while they slept and we will always cherish her artwork. Joyce was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars for 51 years. She had a deep love for Jesus Christ and his church and her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.In 1934 Joyce, when a baby, won 1st place in a beauty contest sponsored by the Sears and Roebuck Co. and in 1937 won 1st place in a tricycle competition sponsored by the Sioux City Department of Recreation. As a child, she loved riding on trains, climbing trees and playing games with the neighborhood children. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, baking, reading the dictionary, roller skating, bowling and working on projects around the house. She especially enjoyed debating politics and religion. Later in life, she loved playing poker with her family.Joyce is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harvey; ten children: Harvey Jr. (Mary) Begnoche of New Mexico, Susan (Bill) Copple of Moville, IA, David (Leslie) Begnoche of Portage, MI, Monica Johnson of Sioux City, IA, Linda (Frank) Rojas of Omaha, NE, Therese (John) Hurshman of Butler, MO, Shelley (Ted) Lancaster of Crofton, NE, Tim (Connie) Begnoche of Remsen, IA, Annette (Jeff) Freking of Kingsley, IA, and Edward (Tina) Begnoche of Le Mars; 50 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Danny Begnoche; son in law, Mark Johnson; granddaughter, Natalie Rojas; sisters: Elaine Latham and Gloria Finnegan; and brothers: Richard Harrison and Arthur Jr. Harrison.
