Carol M. (Cheers) Pugh, 92, of Arispe died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Arispe. Pastor Joel Sutton will officiate the service. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Open visitation will be from 2:00 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with family receiving friends from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Arispe or the East Union Dollars for Scholars. Online condolences can be made at www.powersfh.com.
Carol Maurine (Brock) Pugh, daughter of David Lewis Brock and Emma Grace (Smith) Brock, was born on February 2, 1925, on the family farm in rural Shannon City. She was educated in the Arispe Consolidated Schools and graduated from there with the class of 1943. She then attended the Iowa Teachers College in Corning and taught that fall at Tingley No. 1 in Ringgold County.
Carol was united in marriage to Wayne A. Cheers on September 3, 1944. They were blessed with three boys, Ron, Roger and Ed. They lived on the farm ...[more]
il April of 1978, when they moved into Arispe. While in Arispe, Carol worked as the City Clerk, but took most pride in being a homemaker to her family. Wayne passed away in 1986.
Carol was united in marriage to Lester 'Bus' Pugh on April 26, 1990. Together, they resided in Arispe. Lester passed away in 1995.
Carol was a member of the United Methodist Church in Arispe, of which she was a long-time Treasurer.
Surviving Carol are her three sons, Ron (wife Mary Lou) Cheers, Roger (wife Donna) Cheers and Ed (wife Cindy) Cheers all of Afton; 14 grandchildren, Sarah (William) Long, Brenda (Dusten) Carrington, Ronda (Jason) Driskill, Callista (Nick) Wilkey, Rod Cheers, Gail Cheers, Paula (Harold) Johnston, Tony Cheers (significant other Shanna), Stephanie Fluckey (significant other TJ), Joey Fluckey, Casey (Heather) Fluckey, Tara (Eric) Herzberg, Ryan (Kim) Cheers and Drew (Erin) Cheers; 37 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Wayne Cheers and Lester Pugh, step-son, David Pugh, grandson-in-law Philip Riemenschneider, two sisters, Roberta (Leonard) Clark and Cleo (Carl) Shrader and three infant siblings, Loyce, Florence and Berneta.
