Duane M. "Pete" Miller, 93, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Sunday, September 26, 2010, at his home in Maquoketa, Iowa. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, October 2, 2010, from the Elwood United Methodist Church. A private burial will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa, prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Friday, October 1, 2010, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Duane M. Miller was born on May 20, 1917 in rural Clinton County, Iowa, to William M. and Myrtle (Rugger) Miller. He was a 1937 graduate of the Elwood Consolidated School. He married Dorothea M. Harder on June 1, 1941 in Maquoketa, Iowa. Duane "Pete" farmed in Clinton County from 1937 until retiring in 1995. Duane "Pete" was a member of the Elwood United Methodist Church where he had served on many committees. He also was a member and leader of the Brookfield Township 4-H Club, a member of the American Angus Association, a Jackson County Community Cupboard volunteer and a Jackson County Farm Bureau member. Duane "Pete" is survived by his wife, Dorothea Miller of Maquoketa, IA; a daughter, Ellen Place of San Ramon, CA; 3 grandchildren, Amy (Pat) Steward of Wheatland, IA, Jennifer (Troy) Mohr of Wheatland, IA and Heather (Jaga) Crossingham of Fiji; and 6 great-grandchildren, Malana and Mason Mohr, Noah Crossingham, Shalyn, McKalyn and Kolton Steward. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Craig Alan Miller. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Elwood United Methodist Church, Hospice of Jackson County or the charity of the donor's choice.
