Robert Louis "Bob" Gabel, 78 of Keokuk died Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at his home. He was born May 18, 1939 in Keokuk the son of Charles Robert and Esther Katheryn Gabel. Bob graduated from Keokuk Senior High and was a veteran of the United States Army. He had been employed by the Keokuk Motor Lodge in maintenance for thirty years until his retirement in 2013. He is survived by sister, Bonnie (Jerry) Hanks of Keokuk, one niece, Teresa (Mike) Creach of Keokuk, two great-nephews, Steven M. Davis of Keokuk and Tobias J. Davis of Montrose, IA and his cats, Sammy Bow Tie and Lil' Suzy. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Brian Byquist officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9-10 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time. Memorials may be made to the Marine Corp Police Fund.
