Dr. John A. "Doc" Broman, 90, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Wednesday evening, October 27, 2010, at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 1, 2010, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa, with Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 P.M. on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Carson & Son Funeral Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa , Iowa . John Arthur Broman was born on October 12, 1920 in Crystal Falls, Michigan, to Arthur and Caroline (Lund) Broman. He was a 1938 graduate of Crystal Falls High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan in 1942. He then attended Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania graduating in 1947. He served his medical internship at Augustana Hospital in Chicago, Illinois from 1947 to 1948. "Doc" married Onnolee Beth Anderson on June 26, 1945 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They moved to Maquoketa in 1948, where he joined Dr. Swift in his medical practice until 1952. 55. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Maquoketa and established a partnership with Dr. Paul Brown. Together they formed Maquoketa Medical Center. "Doc" worked in the family practice from 1955 to 1987. From 1987 to 1998, he worked locum tenems, and did Urgent Care work in the eastern Iowa area, lastly for Genesis Medical Center in the Quad Cities. "Doc" had also served as the Jackson County medical examiner from the 1950s, for many years. He was the team doctor for the Maquoketa sports program for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Maquoketa Rotary Club, where he served as its past president. He also served on the Maquoketa School Board for numerous years. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed music and sports. "Doc" is survived by his 8 children, Jack Broman of Gainesville, GA, Beth Broman (Larry Rice) of Riverside, IA, Steve (Donnis) Broman of Fort Collins, CO, Barry (Paula) Broman of Sugarland, TX, Tod (Deanna) Broman of Stuart, IA, Ruth Broman of Jefferson, IA, Faith Broman (Sally Christenson) of Eden Prairie, MN and Hope (Dave Mulcahy) Broman of Orangeville, CA; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Onnolee on March 17, 2005, and a sister, Marilyn Detwiler. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Dr. Broman Athletic Scholarship, the Broman Family Scholarship, First Lutheran Church, Clover Ridge Place or Hospice of Jackson County.
