Melvin Leroy Rouwenhorst, was born May 16, 1929, in Prairie City, Iowa, to Everett and Jennie (De Graff) Rouwenhorst. He passed away September 11, 2017, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at the age of 88.
Melvin was a 1947 graduate of Prairie City High School. He served two years in the U.S. Army where he was awarded two bronze stars. On June 21, 1957, he married Annie Van Der Pol at the Sully First Reformed Church. They lived in Prairie City until 1963, then moved to Pleasantville, where Melvin was a farmer, cattle feeder, and real estate broker.
Melvin made confession of his faith in the First Reformed Church of Prairie City. Presently, he was a member of the First Reformed Church in Pella.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty years Ann, his sisters: Leona Vande Lune of Altoona, and Maxine Schuttinga of Altoona; sisters-in-law: Nellie Zylstra of Pella, and Carlene Van Der Pol of Sully, and many nieces and nephews.
