Bill W. Beck, 67, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Friday, November 26, 2010, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, December 2, 2010, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa, with Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Carson & Son Funeral Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa. Bill W. Beck was born on May 10, 1943 in Clinton County, Iowa, to Warren H. and Maxine A. (Kinrade) Beck. He was a 1961 graduate of Andrew Community High School and then attended Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska for auto mechanics. He married Verla Bormann on November 24, 1963 in St. Donatus, Iowa. After college, Bill worked for Kinrade's Shell Service in Maquoketa and later became co-owner of B & E Shell Station. He then worked at Alcoa, Davenport Works, in Riverdale, Iowa for 35 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement, he worked at the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Maquoketa as a groundskeeper. Bill was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, the Iowa Farm Bureau Association, and was a founding member of the Coronada Car Club of Maquoketa. He always had a passion for collecting and restoring cars. He was an avid sports fan following the Iowa Hawkeyes, Atlanta Braves and Indianapolis Colts, and traveled to many NASCAR events. His grandson, Carson, was his pride and joy. Bill is survived by his wife, Verla Beck of Maquoketa, IA; children, Richard (Martha) Beck of Mundelein, IL, and Melissa Beck of Maquoketa, IA; a grandson, Carson; his mother, Maxine Beck of Maquoketa, IA; brothers, Jack (Mary) Beck of Maquoketa, IA, and Steve (Lu Ann) Beck of Bellevue, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his father and a sister, Kathy Jo. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Bill W. Beck memorial fund has been established.
