Bethene Alicia Hovey was born November 10, 1952, in Estherville, daughter of Arno and Josephine (Naig) Juhl. She grew up on a farm outside of Fenton and graduated from Sentral High School. She lived in the Fenton and Lone Rock area where she raised her children and ran Bethene's Café in Lone Rock for many years.
On September 7, 1991, she was married to John Hovey at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church. For many years she enjoyed doing home health care. She then worked at Van Buren Terrace in Algona and retired from being the assistant activity director at Good Samaritan Society in 2015. Bethene also served as the secretary for the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church. She loved being with her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and cooking.
Bethene died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City after a long battle with complications from diabetes. She was 64.
She is survived by her husband John Hovey of Lone Rock; five children, Allan (Denise) Hovey of Algona, Jason Isebrand of Algona, Jared (Angie) Isebrand of Fenton, Jeff (Torie) Isebrand of Emmetsburg, and Jeana Johnson of Lone Rock; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchi...[more]
ren. She was also survived by a sister, Judy (David) Dreyer of Oelwein; two brothers, Terry (Bev) Juhl of Hansel, and Dawson (Pam) Juhl of Eagle Grove; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
