Jerry Lynn Sydow

Jerry Lynn Sydow age 54, of Ponca, Nebraska, formerly of Lincoln, died Friday January 14, 2011. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday January 18, 2011 from 5-8 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponca with a vigil service held at 7:00 pm with Deacon Dennis Knudson officiating. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 19, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln with interment following in Lincoln Memorial cemetery. Arrangements in Ponca are under the care of Mohr Funeral Home of Ponca and arrangements in Lincoln are under the care of Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Jerry was born in Wayne, Nebraska on February 13, 1956, the son of Wilbur Leonard and Joan F. (Anderson) Sydow. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1974. On June 12, 1976, he married his high school sweetheart Julie McCabe. They were blessed with a son, Ryan Daniel on June 21, 1978. They lived in South Sioux City, Nebraska for ten years, and then moved to Lincoln, where they partnered with Mike and Mary Kinning to create Kinning/Sydow Builders Inc. He enjoyed boating, riding his Harley, racing and hanging out with Billy, winning the annual Christmas card tournament with Dawn, and most recently heling his brother Rick on his new home. Jerry was a quiet person who was also very compassionate, caring, and patient. He was a perfectionist and a planner who did things the right way in both his life and his work. On March 19, 2000, Jerry and Julie lost their beloved son Ryan in an accident. Jerry and Ryan had a special bond as father and son, they were also best friends who had great times together, riding their Harleys and enjoying each other's company. On January 14, 2011 Jerry joined his son in heaven. Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years Julie, his mother Joan and step-father Don Dresden; three brothers Mike and Linda Sydow of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Dennis and Marilyn Sydow of Grand Island, Nebraska, Rick and Nancy Sydow of Newcastle, Nebraska, two sisters, Nancy and Preston Nelson of Maskell, Nebraska, Kathy and John Gubbels of Randolph, Nebraska, his father and mother-in-law Dan and Katherine McCabe of Newcastle, Nebraska, brothers-in-law Dick and Nita McCabe of Emerson, Nebraska, Tom and Shelly McCabe of Hinton, Iowa; sister-in-law Nancy and Tom Walsh of Ponca, Nebraska. Jerry was also the proud uncle of 22 nieces and nephews and 18 great-nieces and nephews. Ready to greet him in heaven along with Ryan is his father Bill Sydow.
