Shirley Ann Koob

Shirley Ann Koob was born December 26, 1930, in Pella, Iowa, the daughter of Dave and Nelle Vos DeCook. She grew up in Pella and when she was a sophomore in high school her family moved to Sigourney. She graduated from Sigourney High School and went on to attend Coe College. On June 12, 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to Dr. Dean F. Koob in Sigourney, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Akron, Ohio, and Shreveport, Louisiana, before moving to Algona on February 1, 1961. Shirley was very active in the Hospital Auxiliary, having over 600 volunteer hours. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing cards and collecting plates. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Shirley died on Thursday, January 1, 2004, at her home in Algona, at the age of 73. Koob and wife Karen of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Sharon Roe and husband Jerry of Phoenix, AZ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her father who died on December 23, 2003; husband, Dr. Dean Koob, April 13, 1987; sister, Marilyn Showman, on December 22, 2003 and an infant brother, Larry D.
