Rena Delores Hanson was born December 5, 1918, in Rutland, Iowa, daughter of Oliver and Marie (Andersen) Bakken. She graduated from Algona High School in 1936.
Rena worked for Iowa Parcel Service in Algona for 18 years; and she was the owner of the Koffee Kup Diner in Algona for several years. She was a 50+ member of the American Legion Auxiliary serving as past president. Rena enjoyed her family and grandchildren, the outdoors through gardening, fishing, and bird watching. She was also a seamstress sewing for others and her family, and she enjoyed doing handcrafts, painting, and reading poetry.
Rena Delores Hanson died Friday, January 2, 2004, at the Algona Manor Care Center, at the age of 85.
She is survived by four children, Judy Lynne Mittag, Austin, TX, Ronald Mittag and his wife Suann, San Diego, CA, (Debra) Renee Hanson, Austin, TX, and Judith (Ukena) Rube and her husband Jack, Maxwell, IA; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Bakken, Mesa, AZ, and Orval Bakken, Houston, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
