Camilla Elizabeth Smith was born February 2, 1912, in Bancroft, daughter of Henry and Margaret (Foth) Lappe. She grew up in Bancroft and attended St. John's Catholic School. Camilla was united in marriage to Joseph Ford of Bancroft on April 23, 1935. The couple made their home on a farm near Bancroft. Joe preceded her in death in 1965. She was united in marriage to Leo Smith on August 6, 1969 and he passed away on April 19, 2001. Camilla was a kind and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the C.D. of A. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, raising flowers, gardening and cooking. Camilla E. Smith died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Heritage Nursing Home, Bancroft, at the age of 92. She had been a resident there since October, 1995. She is survived by five children, Jane Clark of Tallahassee, FL, Richard Ford, Algona, Thomas Ford and his wife Sharon, Fort Dodge, James Ford and his wife Karen, Elk River, MN, and David Ford, Rapid City, SD; 10 grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Joe Ford and Leo Smith; one sister, Mildred Ditsworth; and three brothers, Harold, Lawrence, and John Lappe.
