Colette Matilda Haag Schneider was born on September 14, 1918, at Hospers, Iowa, to Cyril and Catherine Boever Haag. She married Bill Schneider on September 3, 1940, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ledyard, Iowa. The couple lived in the Bancroft and Algona area most of their lives, where they raised their children. Colette was a homemaker, famous for her "butterhorn" rolls. She was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, where she was active for many years in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Colette died on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona, Iowa, where she had been a resident since December 18, 1993. She was 86. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Richard and wife, Marcia, Orono, MN; Sandra Schmitt and husband, Richard, Chariton, IA; Russell and wife, Pat, Brooklyn Center, MN; Diane Downs and husband, Doug, Shell Lake, WI; Marlene, Omaha, NE; Carole, Greeley, CO; and Michael, Morrill, NE.
