John McCarthy

John R. McCarthy was born March 26, 1913, to Albert and Anna (Brummer) McCarthy at Clark, SD. He married Agnes Schiltz, daughter of John and Cecelia Schiltz, on January 4, 1938, at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. John and Agnes farmed all their married life northeast of Bancroft. They retired to their new home in Bancroft in the fall of 1977. John enjoyed bowling, golfing, and visiting at the Senior Citizens Center. John R. McCarthy died Sunday, February 6, 2005, at is residence in Bancroft at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife, Agnes; three children, Jim McCarthy and his wife Sonia, Waterloo, Dennis McCarthy and his wife Shirley, Bancroft, and Ruth Engelhart and her husband Allen of Bancroft; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob McCarthy of San Gabriel, CA, Homer McCarthy of Tishomingo, OK, and Vince McCarthy of Seneca, SC; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Ray McCarthy; and one sister, Maxine Coyne. [more]
