Luella C. Riedel, 84, of Algona formerly of Burt and Lone Rock area, died Thursday, at Good Samaritan Communities, Algona. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 23 at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 109 Maple Street, Burt, with the Reverend Jonathan C. Watt officiating. Burial will be in Burt Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Sunday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Luella Clara Riedel was born on July 18, 1920 on the family farm near Lone Rock, daughter of Robert A. and Helena H. (Ohm) Schmidt. There were five boys and three girls in the Schmidt family. Luella attended school in Lone Rock until the 8th grade and then helped on the family farm. In 1939 she moved with her parents to Fairmont, MN and was married to Cecil Green on April 24, 1941. While Cecil was in the service, they moved from the east coast to west, settling in California for 28 years. Luella moved back to Burt and worked at Schultz Brothers gas station in Algona for several years. She married Louis H. Riedel on April 6, 1977, in Fairmont, MN. to Algona. She loved gardening and flowers, embroidery work, and was a collector of Garfield figurines. Luella was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Burt where she was active in the Ladies Aid and a past member of the Senior Saints. Luella C. Riedel died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Good Samaritan Communities, Algona at the age of 84. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Verona Schmidt, Algona, and Alice Schmidt, Austin, MN; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Louis on February 3, 1989; five brothers, Leo, Ben, Fred, Tom, and Robert Schmidt; and two sisters, Matilda Riedel and Malinda Meyer.
