Edward Lee Hunnicutt Sr., age 93 of Decherd passed December 1, 2012. He was born on April 19, 1919 in Berry, Alabama, the son of George Avington and Annie Lee Bagwell Hunnicutt. Edward enlisted in the Army in August, 1937 and was sent to Fort Shafter, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was discharged in 1939 after serving two years in the Coast Artillery. He was drafted back into the Army March 1942 and was sent to Camp Forest, Tennessee. He stayed in the service for the duration of World War II. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 30th, 1946. While at Camp Forest, he met his wife Lucille Boren Hunnicutt. They were married sixty-six days after their first date. They have just recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Edward served as an Elder of the Capitol Hill Church of Christ for 10 years. He was a Charter member of the Capitol Hill Lions Club, President of Capitol Hill Community Club, Charter member of Franklin County Beautification Club, and currently served as a Board member of the Franklin County Christian Scholarship. beagles. In his later years, he loved to watch his birds, Atlanta Braves and the Tennessee VOLS! But most of all Edward loved holding hands and kissing his Lucy! Edward was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Chester, Norman and Elliott Hunnicutt, four sisters, Harbin Hunnicutt, Louise Sweeney, Lillie Mae Harbin, Catherine Terry, son George Thomas (Tommy) Hunnicutt, Grandaughter Sheri Stokes and great-grandson Todd A.Stokes Jr. He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Lucille, one son Edward Lee Hunnicutt, Jr.and wife Linda, three daughters Sandra (Mike) Roggli, Deborah (John) Gravlee, Sheila Geisenhoffer,and one sister EllaFair (Brents) Mathis. Thirteen grandchildren, Steve Hunnicutt, Karen (Kent) Bowden, Michael (Julie) Roggli, Tim Roggli, Leigh Ann (Todd) Cypers, Chris (Sheila) Gravlee, Ashley Gravlee, Lauren Geisenhoffer, Andrew Geisenhoffer, Cameron Hunnicutt, Ethan Hunnicutt, Stacey (Chad) Horner and Stuart Keele; and eleven great grandchildren Jacob Hunnicutt, Marlena Stokes, Stuart & Abigail Roggli, Garrett & Corbin Cyphers, Elizabeth & Emma Roggli, Serena Gravlee, Brook Ezell and Braden Pickerel. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will be in Mt. Garner Cemetery, Decherd, TN. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Bro. Ed Boggess, Bro. Mike Hall, and Bro. Lynn Tharpe will officiate the service. The Hunnicutt family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Winchester Christian Academy in honor of Edward Lee Hunnicutt, Sr. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave. NW, Winchester.
