Charles Elmer Ostwald was born January 24, 1935, in Whittemore, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Esther Brass Ostwald. He grew up and attended school in Whittemore. After his schooling Charles worked on the family farm with his father.
On April 24, 1960, Charles was united in marriage to Sharon Johnson in Algona, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Algona. Charles worked at Jack's OK Tire Service in Algona until his retirement in 1997. Charles was an avid stock car racing fan, attending the races three times a week, enjoyed working in the yard and woodworking. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Charles died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa, at the age of 71.
He is survived by his son, Tom Ostwald and his wife Patty of Johnston, Iowa, and two grandsons, Dylan and Ryan Ostwald. Also surviving are two brothers, Delbert Ostwald of Whittemore, Iowa; Melvin Ostwald and wife Shirley of Whittemore, Iowa, and a sister Dorothy Kuntz of Chicago, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon, who died November 8, 2002; son, Brady Ostwald and a sister, Eleanor Wagner.
