Alice Loss

Alice Ann Loss was born on February 12, 1939, at Lone Rock, Iowa to Delbert and Frieda Dreyer Geitzenauer. She graduated from the Fenton High School in 1956. Alice was married to Larry Parker on June 22, 1958, at Fenton, Iowa. He died in an accident on November 4, 1958. Alice was married to Dean Loss on April 6, 1961 at Algona, Iowa. The couple farmed near Algona. Dean preceded Alice in death on December 2, 1992. Alice was a member of the St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. She was active in the choir and funeral choir, a Circle leader for funeral dinners, was a member of the C. D. of A., co-chaired the Fair Stand and was a former chair person for the salad bar fundraiser. She was very civic minded and active in many groups and organizations. Alice was President of the Board of the Kossuth County Care Team, assisting with the Loving Hands Nursery and the Tacos for Tots campaign. She belonged to the Soroptimist Club and had been chairperson for their Tour of Homes event. ommittee and the RAGBRAI organization committee. In 2006, Alice was one of four people to receive the initial Heritage Award for the Founders Day Celebration. She held several county, district and state positions in the Democratic Party; and was currently serving as Kossuth County's Vice Chair. She served on the Election Board and the Kossuth County Zoning Commission. She also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Ladies. Alice enjoyed cooking for all of her family, playing cards, traveling, yardwork and gardening, but her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed having her grandchildren come and visit and she also enjoyed watching them participate in all of their activities. Alice died on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa. She was 67. Alice is survived by her children, Larry Loss, Urbandale, IA, Marcia Parrish and husband Leigh, Algona, IA, David Loss and wife, Denise, Algona, IA, Patrice Ostwald and husband, Tom, Johnston, IA and Michael Loss and wife, Kelly, Omaha, NE. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, her mother Frieda Geitzenauer, Algona, IA and her brothers and sisters, Gerald Geitzenauer and wife, Marge, Greene, IA, Dennis Geitzenauer and wife, Janeice, Dakota City, IA, Bonnie Vogelgesang, Hutchinson, KS, Judy Baker and husband, Roger, Lowell, IN, Douglas Geitzenauer and wife, Becky, Hutchinson, KS and Nancy Henderson, Fenton, IA. She was preceded in death by her father and her husbands.
