ent, Sunday School teacher, and Bible Schoolteacher. She was a member of Helping Hands Society, Coffee Break Bible Study, and Des Moines Area Retired School Personnel. Leona graduated from Drake University in 1970. She taught at the Prairie City Christian School for one year, Prairie City Elementary/PCM for 33 years and Sylvan Learning Center for five years. She retired when she was 80 years old. She enjoyed her family, reading, traveling, and gardening. Those left to honor her memory are three sons and daughters-in-law: Max and Colleen of Prairie City, Brian and Viola of Runnells, and Dennis and Marcia of Prairie City. Her grandchildren are Troy (Becky) VandeLune, Amy (Tim) Fulton, Chad (Dorothy) VandeLune; Greg (Ann) VandeLune, Bret (Katie) VandeLune, Teresa (Jeremy) Steensma; Chris (Lisa) VandeLune, Lisa Anderson, and Brad (Trisha) VandeLune. Her great grandchildren are Megan (Jon), Lindsay, and Tyler, Emily and Drew, Sydney, Juniper, and Celia; Justin, Teddy, and Molly, Cooper, Carson, and Cutler, Caleb; Christian, Joel, Taylor, Emma, Abbigayle, Malorie and Maggie, Noah and Aidan, Collin and Alivia. She is also survived by her sister, Maxine Schuttinga of Altoona, and sister-in-law, Ann Rouwenhorst of Pella. Preceding her in death were her husband, Bill, in 1997, infant son, Kevin, her sisters, Louise Kane, Norma Schuttinga, Laverna Aalbers, her brother, Melvin Rouwenhorst, great grandchildren, Zoe Jean Anderson and Price Wilbert VandeLune and brothers-in-law, Don Aalbers, Gerald Schuttinga, Art Schuttinga, and Beryl Kane Leona will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
