Larry Duane Shaffer, longtime resident of Boulder, died Sunday, October 8, 2017, at ManorCare of Boulder. He was 69 years old. He was born in Clarinda, Iowa on October 20, 1947, the son of Clyde M. and Erma D. (Young) Shaffer. His identical twin brother Gary was born one minute earlier than Larry. Larry grew up in Clearfield, Iowa and the family moved to Boulder in 1963. The boys graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder in 1966. Larry and Gary graduated from Vo-tech as mechanics and he worked for a short time with his Uncle Pete at a garage in Nederland. Larry worked as a mechanic for McCaddon Cadillac, Buick, and GMC for 46 years. Larry loved to read, listen to news radio, and he was an avid Colorado Rockies fan. He enjoyed being with his family, but generally just enjoyed life to the fullest. He is preceded in death by his parents. Surviving family members are his children, Craig D. Shaffer of Louisville, Leha K. Shaffer of Longmont, Michael J. Shaffer of Boulder, and Meg E. Sorensen of Cody, WY. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 14 at Darrell Howe Mortuary in Lafayette. Burial will be private.
