Maria A. "Maruca" Flores, 86 of Lorain passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born May 14, 1931 in Comerio, Puerto Rico to Jose M. Longo and Eduarda Rivera. Maruca came from New Jersey to Lorain in 1960. She received her Beauticians License in New Jersey. She worked for Margarita Beauty Shop in Lorain and at the former St. Joseph Hospital laundry for 16 years.
Maruca was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. She was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the choir, and President of The Legion of Mary. She taught P. S. R. classes for 10 years and Parents Baptism Program. Her devotion to The Virgin Mary was made evident by her continuous praying of The Holy Rosary.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 65 years Jose A. Other than her parents Maruca was preceded in death by her sons Jose A. Flores, Jr. in 1992 and Nelson Flores in 2010; sister Margarita Berrios; brothers Pedro Longo, Alberto Berrios, Rafael Berrios, and Eduardo Berrios; and Juan Berrios who raised her.
Her family will receive friends Friday, October 13 from 4 to 8 in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Saturday from 8:30 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Her family suggests contributions in her memory be made to the Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 3401 Pearl Avenue, Lorain Ohio 44055.
