Wayne Leslie Brown, 93, of West Burlington, died at 12:04 AM Saturday, October 14, 2017, at his home.
Born January 1, 1924, in LaHarpe, IL, he was the son of Pearl Leroy and Della Alston Brown. On April 1, 1945, he married Betty Jane Brown in Burlington. She later passed on November 23, 2011.
Wayne worked for H.B. Green and Churchill Truck Lines as a truck driver. His CB Radio handle was "Brownie". After retiring from trucking, he worked for Deery Brothers up until June of this year.
He was a graduate of LaHarpe High School.
He was a very good friend of the congregation at First United Church of Christ. He was a member of the Teamsters' Union, Eagle's Club, and the McDonalds Morning Coffee Club. In 1966, he and Betty purchased a Ford Galaxy convertible, which was his pride and joy over the years. He and Betty were avid campers, and enjoyed traveling all over the United States, driving numerous camping vehicles over the years. Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Shahsavari of Piedmont, OK; two grandsons, Charles (Becky) Conn of Del City, OK and Gary (Kimanda) Conn of Washington, OK; seven great-grandchildren, Rachel (Samuel) Wilson, Sarah (Logan) Longley, Hannah, Daniel, Katie, McKenzie, and Abigail Conn, all of Oklahoma; one great-great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn Longley of Oklahoma; one sister, Orma Bjork of Stronghurst, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kent Brown, and one sister, Amy Richer.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at First United Church of Christ where the family will receive friends.
The funeral service for Mr. Brown will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at First United Church of Christ with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at First United Church of Christ following the service.
Memorials have been established for the Great River Hospice House and the American Cancer Society.
