David Harold Halvorson, 63, of Cedar Rapids died peacefully in his sleep on October 14, 2017 following a courageous 15 year battle with Parkinson's disease. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Trish Decker of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Dave is survived by his wife of 28 years Debra; six daughters Jennifer (Rachel Kaster) Halvorson of Minneapolis, MN, Stefanie (Rif) Throckmorton of Iowa City, Jaime (Eric) Sanders of Williamsburg, VA, Beth (Luke Maas) Teahen-Maas, Laura (Sidney) Murray, and Mary (Dan) Gahring all of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren Zander, Adrian, Alaina, Zavier, Greenlee, Fletcher, Zara, Kata, Rif, and Macoy; sisters-in-law Diane Talyat and Denise (Harry) Hunt; many nieces and nephews; and his dogs Piper and Luna.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis, and brother-in-law Richard Talyat.
Dave was born May 17, 1954 in Viborg, SD the son of Harold and Lucille Satrum Halvorson. He graduated from Irene High School in 19...[more]
n 1972 and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1976. Dave married Debra Gearhart on July 8, 1989 in Cedar Rapids. He was an electrical enginner and worked at Rockwell Collins in Government Systems retiring in 2013.
Dave was a very loving husband, dad and grandpa. He was extraordinary man who showed his extreme patience through love and kindness with his wife, six girls, and grandchildren. Dave and Debra enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises and visiting the ocean. He was very talented with his hands and could fix or build anything. Dave was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. The last four years of Dave's life have been very challenging, but he never complained or gave up. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved their many visits.
