Francis A. Pence, 84, of Iowa City, formerly of Burlington, died 5:55 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Wellman Parkview Manor, in Wellman, Iowa.
Born July 29, 1931 in Galesburg, Illinois, he was the son of George A. and Merle (Sanderson) Pence.
Francis farmed on the family farm for most of his life, during which time he worked for BNSF Railroad for 25 years and then worked for I.A.A.P for 20 years.
He was an established coin collector and a hard worker. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
He was an Army veteran serving proudly in the Korean conflict.
Survivors include one son, Lonnie Pence of Burlington; one daughter, Sandra of Wapello and one sister, Dolores Pence of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Allena and one brother George.
The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 18th at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
