Marilyn Adams, 84, of Thayer, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Afton Care Center in Afton. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2017 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate. Visitation, with family receiving friends will be one hour prior to service on Monday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Marilyn Adams was born May 31, 1933 in rural Thayer, Iowa to Mildred F. Booth and Ralph Roy "Cap" Crittenden. She graduated from Murray High School in 1951.
On October 22, 1951 she was united in marriage to Fredrick Franklin "Frank" Adams. She lived south of Thayer and then west of Thayer and moved into Thayer in 1962. She was primarily a homemaker. She worked weighing trucks at the old sand pit south of Thayer, the Caf in Murray and also cleaned houses in the Murray and Osceola areas. ing yard work, crocheting, embroidering, camping and spending time with her family. She enjoyed traveling especially to Germany and Hawaii. In June of 2016 she moved to the Afton Care Center.
Survivors include her son Rod (wife Pat) Adams of Murray; daughter Cindy Roan (significant other Gary "G.A." Paulus) of Afton; her daughter-in-law, Jill Adams of Norwalk; two sisters, Carolyn (husband Duane) Skarda of Afton and Linda (husband Bill) Moore of Norwalk; two sisters-in-laws, Jeannie Crittenden of Osceola and Ginger Ross of Afton; brother-in-law George Weis of Afton; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank in 1987, a son, Rick in 2012; a brother, Merrill Crittenden, and other extended family.
