Barbara Jean Bahling

Interment: Buffalo Township Cemetery ~ Titonka, Iowa Barbara Jean (Hott) Bahling was born August 28, 1920, in Algona, Iowa, the only child of Obadiah and Olga Magnuson Hott. She died January 28, 2008, at the Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa, at the age of 87. Barbara was raised in the rural Doan Church area and graduated from Burt High School in 1937. She attended Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa and worked in the offices of Rath Packing Company until her marriage. On November 28, 1940, Barbara was united in marriage to Gerald Bahling in the old United Methodist Church parsonage in Titonka. They farmed south of Titonka until their retirement in 1977 when they moved into town. Each year they looked forward to wintering in Mercedes, Texas. A lifetime member of the Doan United Methodist Church, Barbara was also a seventy year member of Eastern Star. She loved to cook, sew and play bridge and belonged to numerous card clubs both at home and in Texas. She was a loving grandmother to Ed (Macaila) Eick, Aimee (Chris) Turney, Michael (Sharon) Brown, Layne (Cher) Brown, Curtis (Kim) Brown, Michelle (Brian) Garner, Angela (Brandon) Reed, Betsy (Mark) Barglof, Jesse Bahling, Hadley (Hillary) Bahling, Desty Bahling, Brock Bahling, Kandice Zwiefel and Jaclyn Zwiefel. Barbara was great-grandmother to Morgan and Garrett Eick, Cole Turney, Logan, Hunter, Lauren, Taylor and Curtis Brown, Emma and Madelyn Reed and Jacob Barglof. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald in 1993, daughter Janet in 1994, grandson Jeffrey Gray in 1976, granddaughter Kelli Zwiefel in 1986, and special cousin, Lucille Vogel, who was raised by Barbara's parents.
