Robert Lewis Shoemaker, O.D., 81,
Dr. Shoemaker passed away Tuesday, August 3. He was born in Elkhart, Indiana on December 22, 1928. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice; and sons, Mark of Austin, TX and Scott (Cindy) of Indianapolis. Dr. Shoemaker attended Culver Military Academy, Depauw, and Indiana Universities where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He received his doctor of optometry degree from Pennsylvania State College of Optometry.
He served in the Army Medical Corps during the Korean War. He was president of the Men of Meridian, 1963-64; Indiana Optometrist of the Year, 1970; president of the Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry, 1979-80; president of the Harbour Club Homeowner's Association, 1990-92. He was a member of Riviera and Photo Venture camera clubs, and won numerous photography awards.
Dr. Shoemaker served on the staff parish committee at North United Methodist Church and was one of the founders of Leaven, where he and his wife are members.
