Mary Etta Hunter was born September 7, 1927 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late James Wilbert and Mary Zelma Hayden. Mary was baptized at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Owensboro, KY; she was also affiliated with St Thomas Aquinas and Holy Angeles Catholic Churches in Indianapolis, IN.
Mary graduated from Western High school in Owensboro, Ky.
Mary was united in Holy Matrimony to Walter Leon Hunter Sr. on March 16, 1946; to this union five children were born.
Mary was employed at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Army Finance Center, retiring after 30 years of service.
When thinking of Mary one parable comes to mind “The Good Samaritan”. Mary always had an open-door policy at her home, everyone was welcome; if you were hungry she fed you, if you were tired she gave you a place to rest; If you needed a little pocket change no problem she’d hand over that last dollar. She had a tremendous love for children and a caring nature, to all the neighborhood kids she was affectionately known as Grandma.

Mary got her angel wings on October 12, 2017 at the youthful age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Leon Hunter Sr, sons Barry Lane and Jeffery Glen Hunter, grandson Walter L Hunter III and her brother William G Hayden.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Sister Georgia Lee Thomas, sister in law Marjorie Morton, Daughters Sharon L Glaspie and Nancy A Bryant (William), son Walter L. Hunter Jr, (Jacqueline) eight Grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
