Folina Buffington

Interment: Buffalo Township Cemetery ~ Titonka, Iowa Folina Lucy (Greenfield) Buffington, the daughter of John and Anna (Eden) Greenfield was born near Woden, Iowa. She grew up near Titonka graduating from Titonka High School in 1938. Folina was united in marriage to Ilo Buffington on August 22, 1939, in Manly, Iowa. They farmed in the Titonka area, settling east of Titonka, for nearly 44 years. During that time Folina worked at the Woden Farm Service as a Secretary one summer and for Callies Variety Store for a number of years. Folina was an active member of the Doan Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Ilo and Folina moved into Titonka from the farm in 1990. They moved to Van Buren Terrace Apartments in Algona, in 2001, to be near family. Folina was a gracious hostess and enjoyed serving tea to guests. Guests at Folina and Ilo's home never left hungry as Folina loved cooking and sharing garden produce. She also enjoyed embroidering pillowcases and baby quilts, as well as sewing many of her children's clothes. Christian mother. Folina Buffington died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, at the age of 89. Folina is survived by five children, Judy Stransky and her husband, Jack, of Omaha, NE; Jerry Buffington and his wife, Evelyn, of Bismarck, ND; Janet Remus and her husband, Carey, of Winthrop, MN; Jon and his wife, Kathy, of Sioux City, IA; and Jean Menning and her husband, Colin, of Algona. She is survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren: Dean (Norma) Stransky and their daughter Alexis; Mark (Susy) Stransky and their daughter JackieLynn; Darren (Elysia) Buffington and their children Dana and Breanna, Alan Helgeson and his daughter Melissa, Wayne Helgeson and his son Brandon, Julie (Tyler) Brenno and son Mason, and great grand-daughter Braelynn Helgeson; Sheila (John) Sparling and their children Lily, Sarah (Kyle) Granato, and Jessie (Nick) King and son Hunter; Amy (Nathan) Lamb and their children, Gabby and Josh; Jennifer (Brian) Pearce and their children Alexis, Jordan, Brayden, and Kenadie; Jason (Beth) Buffington and their children Jayden, Joshua, Jonathan, Ethan, Amanda, Jessica and children Suri and Ireland; Kristy Buffington and her daughters Miracle and Natilia; Corey (Kelly) Menning and Stacy Menning. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and special friends Butch and Dorothy Giesking, Russell and Lenora Kiley and Roger and Phyllis Schmidt. She is also survived by a very special friend and caregiver Bev Kaiser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ilo; an infant daughter, Joyce; parents John and Anna Greenfield; one sister, Mildred Heath; a granddaughter, Dana Buffington; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Buffington; and two step-grandsons Ronnie and Bradley Helgeson.
