Darlene Marie Gade was born December 22, 1929, at Seneca, Iowa, to Harry and Martha (Brandt) Schroeder. Darlene graduated from Ledyard High School in 1947. She attended Mankato Commercial College and worked for Ray Irons Plumbing & Heating in Algona beginning in 1948. She worked for Godden Monument and Elmore Nursery before being united in marriage to Wayne H. Gade on June 1, 1952, in Ledyard. Darlene was a farm wife and the couple moved into Whittemore in 1990.
Darlene enjoyed needlework, baking and gardening but she most enjoyed supporting her children in their school activities when they were younger. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Algona, the Fun and Do Club, a home Bible study group, and a former member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her children, Craig Gade and wife Deborah of Whittemore, Cheryl Gade of West Union, Iowa and Chris Gade and wife Marne of Rochester, Minnesota as well as six grandchildren, and brother Ronald Schroeder and wife Barbara of Swea City, Iowa, Karen Meyer and husband Larry of Wellsburg, Iowa and Barbara Ristau and husband Rick of Elmore, Minneso...[more]
