Maude Gass Solomon

Maude Gass Solomon, age 98 of Cowan, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at the Winchester Center. She was born August 3, 1915 in Stevenson, Alabama; the daughter of the late Robert L. and Della (Smith) Gass. She was the oldest member of Cowan First Baptist Church and a homemaker that made the best turnip greens. She was known to everyone in Cowan as Aunt Maude and she loved to write poetry. Mrs. Solomon was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. Solomon; sisters, Sugg Hill, Lou Ellen Nichols, Bess Bush and Novella Arhalt; and brothers, Bill, John Henry, Raymond, Herman, and Lawrence Gass. Surviving are son, Leroy (Rita) Solomon of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren Kandy Solomon, Kari Cowart, Karen Starustka, Slater Solomon and Jennifer McCullough; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Cowan First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Cowan Montgomery Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Faithful Encouragers at Cowan First Baptist Church.
