James Edward Hoggie Reed, age 69 of Decherd, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Waters of Winchester. A native of Franklin County, he was born on September 25, 1947 to the late James Donald and Frankie Aline Kelley Reed. James served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned two bronze stars. He was self-employed as a truck driver until his retirement and was a member of the Decherd Masonic Lodge. James enjoyed fishing, farming, listening to old country music, and watching Nascar, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. He loved his dogs, Jessie, Sassie, Missy, and Izzie, and his bird, Gus. James will be remembered for being headstrong, and for having a big caring heart. He is survived by his wife, Connie Reed of Decherd; daughter, Tina (Troy) Matthews of Decherd; sister, Barbara Showalter of Elkhart, Indiana; and grandchildren, Joshua Knap, James Knap, Christian Johnson, Brett Baldwin, and Grace Matthews. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 PM in the Moore-Cortner Chapel.
