Ohio State lost their biggest fan when Bill Smith, age 77, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017, on his mother's birthday, at the Promise Hospital of Fort Myers surrounded by his children. He was born October 10, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio to Melvin and Myrtle (Webb) Smith. He grew up in Columbus and attended Walnut Township High School. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army, he attended and graduated from Franklin University with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration. He was an avid Indians and Buckeyes fan and probably had the world's largest collection of Buckeye Memorabilia! Most importantly he was a loving father to six children and grandfather of eight. Bill loved being with and/or talking with his grandkids, hearing about all their activities and sports. He is survived by daughters, Mary Conroy (Tom), Susan Pickert (Todd), Sandy Smyth (Patrick), Colleen Steineman (John) and Heather Smith; and son David Smith; beloved grandchildren, Blake Conroy, Thomas and Matthew Pickert, Elizabeth, Colin and Nicholas Smyth, Peter Williams and Katie Garrett (Hoby); brother, Richard Smith; and many loving nieces and nephews.
