was a crew leader for the 2000 U.S. Census and then was employed part time in Printing & Document Service at Office Max in Clinton, IA. Then he spent two years at DM Services in Clinton, IA. He married Jacquelin Krava in 1957. He married Carol Kershner Costello in 1978. He loved music, enjoyed sports of all kinds, and was an avid reader and storyteller.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Hess of Clinton, IA, a daughter, Vicki Rekemeyer of Rockford, IL, step-daughters: Dr. Kathy (Lyle) Van Buer of Davenport, IA, Mrs. Dawn (Randy) Nissen of Plover, WI, a stepson Brian (Shanistie) Costello of Clinton, IA, brother Bob (Sharon) Hess of Clinton, IA, and six grandchildren: Ryan (Mary) Van Buer of Davenport, IA, Chris (Laura) Van Buer of Marion, IA, Jordan Nissen of Plover, WI, Troy Nissen of Dubuque, IA, Brett and Brittany Costello of Clinton, IA; one great-granddaughter Ellia Van Buer of Marion, IA. He was preceded in death by his father Victor Hess and mother Janez Bell, his stepmother, Opal Primley Hess, his son Brian J. Hess, his sister Judy Hess Leslie and his brother Jeff Hess.
