George A. Herrmann

George A. Herrmann, 82, of Moline, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 30, 2017. A visitation will be held at Weerts Funeral Home Thursday, October 5th from 4-6 P.M. with a service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church Moline, of which he was a member, or East Moline Christian School. George was born in Cherokee County, Iowa, in 1935 the third son of Edward and Dr. Laura Herrmann. George's father was a prison farm warden for various locations in Iowa. His mother Dr. Laura Herrmann served Iowa communities by making house calls, and accepting goods in exchange for her services. The family eventually settled in Davenport, where George graduated high school. He served eight years in the U.S. army, two years of active duty and six years in the reserves. He married Janice Vinzant on August 29, 1958, in Crawfordsville, Iowa. He worked numerous jobs before becoming a supervisor at Oscar Mayer in Davenport. He thoroughly enjoyed an early retirement by spending time with family. He was a dedicated father to his children and their activities, and cofounded the Blue Marlins Swim Team. and dining out. In retirement he enjoyed following the sporting events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and also followed the Chicago Bulls, Bears, and Cubs. He was thrilled to see his beloved Cubs win the World Series in 2016. Survivors include children: Susan (Stan) Gustafson, Gary Herrmann, Laura (John) O'Melia; grandchildren, Barbi, Christopher, Sean, and Kevin; great grandchildren, Tristan, Taran, Blayklee, and Tameron.
