Funeral services for Harold L. Mikkelsen, 88, of Pleasant Valley, IA will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Our Savior Presbyterian Church in Argo, IA. Burial with military honors will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Mr. Mikkelsen died on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL.
Harold LaVern Mikkelsen was born on November 4, 1928 in Creston, IA, the son of Claus and Lema (Standley) Mikkelsen. Following his graduation from High School he served in the United States Air Force completing his military obligations in 1952. In earlier years he owned and operated the Border Lakes Outfitting Company in Winton, MN. He later worked as a tool and die maker for 21 years at the Rock Island Farmall works finally retiring from Swan Engineering Company in 1974.

tember 13, 1995. Mr. Mikkelsen was a longtime member of Our Savior Presbyterian Church, he loved airplanes and was a member of the EAA, Experimental Aircraft Association. He was an avid Dodgers fan and, was a 35 year Hawkeye season ticket holder and member of the I Club. He most especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving members of the family include - a Daughter: Debra Carlton; a Step-Daughter: Carol Eberlein; a Son: Steve Mikkelsen; 2 Step-Sons: Clyde and Bart Boyd; a Sister: Delores Davis; 5 Grandchildren: Daniel, Nick, Josh, Lindsay and Lema; 5 Step Grandchildren; and 4 Great-Grandchildren: Jack, Emma, Elizabeth, and Callie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, and a special friend and longtime companion, Patricia Lema.
