1919, to J.N. Brownfield and Ocie Mullen Brownfield. Jack's parents blessed him with a younger brother, whom he loved and shared a special bond. Jack spent his early days in Menard, TX. until he joined the U.S. Army in May of 1941. He spent 42 months in Europe, during World War II. Jack was a D-Day survivor at Normandy and honorably discharged in October of 1945.
During the war, Jack corresponded by mail with a beautiful redhead, he had yet to meet, Shirley Mae Havins. Upon his return from the war, Jack and Shirley finally met at the Hangar Dance Hall in San Angelo, where they shared their first dance together, to "Faded Love", by Bob Wills. Jack and Shirley were married on April 29, 1946. They continued to dance together for over 60 years! They were blessed with two children, the light of their lives. Jack served in the Trinity Lutheran Church every Sunday for 50 years. He worked for Troy Laundry for 53 years. When Troy closed, he then worked for Bahlman Cleaners until he decided to retire at 98 years of age. Jack loved, and always looked forward to seeing his regular customers and friends along his route, twice a week in Sterling City.
