John "Jack" Christensen, 75, of Lucas, formerly of Creston, died Monday, October 30, 2017 at Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 6, at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston.
Pastor Rick Titus will officiate the service. Military flag presentation with taps will be by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797.
Visitation with family receiving friends will be one hour prior to the service on Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

John J. 'Jack' Christensen, son of Shelby Chris Christensen and Doris (Woods) Christensen, was born October 4, 1942 in Creston, Ia. He attended grade school at Douglas 6 in Union County and then Creston Schools until he joined the United States Navy in 1960. While in the Navy, Jack completed his GED. Following Jack's discharge, he was a bronco buster and worked at Purolator in Creston and also did some truck driving.

in Creston. They were blessed with two children, Jana and Jamie. They later divorced.
On February 10, 1979, Jack was united in marriage to Sharon Selsor and gained two sons, Monty and Jay. They later divorced.
Jack started working for Union Pacific Railroad on April 4, 1972 as a heavy equipment operator. He was employed there for 39 years and retired in February of 2011. Following his retirement, Jack began working for Wright Rodeo as a Stock Supervisor and truck driver.
Jack began his rodeo career competing at a young age with Little Britches and later into high school. He was always on a horse or active with horses. Jack was a past President, serving two terms, with the Pony Express. He was active with several rodeo associations most recently the IRCA and URA as a chute man and stock supervisor for several years. He was also active with Clarke County Youth Rodeo and the Clarke County Fair Board.
Jack is survived by his daughter Jana (husband Lynn) Weland of Creston; son Jamie Christensen of Creston; step-son Jay Selsor of Guthrie Center; grandchildren, Ashli (husband Steve) Peterson of Creston, Adam (wife Rhianna) Leith of Creston, Alec Christensen of Cedar Rapids and Lauryn Christensen of Creston; step grandchildren, Ronnie and Harley Selsor; two great-grandchildren, Keyana and Hunter; sister Eva (husband Harris) Perkins of Creston; along with extended relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nieces Diane Berry and great nieces Amy Roan.
