n 2002. To this union two children were born: Zeke Ernest who was born August 14th of 1994 and Suzy Rae who was born September 25th of 1999. He was so proud of his children and talked about them often. In 2000, Tim decided to open Earth Surgeon Supply, Inc. selling new and used parts primarily for heavy equipment and also bought and sold used equipment. Tim lost his leg in a brush hog mowing accident in July 2002, but he did not let that keep him down. He got a prosthetic leg and kept moving on. In 2009 he sold off the parts business and went back to work for his family. He also worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in Mahaska County pushing snow for a few winters on the off season. In April of 2016 Tim was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and could not return to work. He handled that like everything else in life he just got up and dealt with it. He was very fortunate to be able to take himself for his chemo and radiation treatments to Iowa City, Iowa and back, with on a rare occasion a passenger with him. He was blessed not to be "sick" during the whole chemo process and had traveled over 30,000 miles in his Chevy Colorado. On July 25, 2017, after his last scans and knowing his cancer had spread he was sent home to finish living out his life. He was able to spend 10 days with Zeke home on leave, so of course they did a little earthmoving around the yard and redoing the drive way, changing the landscape and spending time with his brothers, sister and dad doing what they all loved. The last month he enjoyed people out to the house, bonfires and family. He would get on the golf cart and ride around his property. He appreciated that he could still be in contact with his son who was stationed with the Marines in California about every night so he could close the miles between them. He was a proud Marine dad to Zeke and loved his beautiful red head daughter Suzy and her passion for her faith. He was most proud of his children. Tim helped out in his community and was blessed to call Pella his home. He enjoyed anything that would make a kid feel confident, thrive and give them value. He liked working with the Fish for Kids, the Pella Shooting Club, The Soccer Complex and The Pella Sports Complex. Tim passed away peacefully after an 18 month battle with lung cancer on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the age of 53 years at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House. Tim is survived by his wife, Shelley, son, Zeke and daughter, Suzy; his parents, Paul and Susan Brackin; his sister, Trina and husband, Larry Collier; his brothers: Trent Brackin and his children: Arie and Ali, Trevor Brackin and his wife, Michelle and their children: Teejay, Erica, Hudson and Lydia all of Pella, Iowa. Tim leaves his mother-in-law Bonita (Bier) Smith of Morris, Minnesota; and five sister-in-laws and their husbands: Linda and Brad Foss of Hancock, MN, Teresa and Joe Pignato of Cottage Grove, MN, Dorinda and Forrest Mote of Amarillo, TX, Diana and Matt Hedstrom of Detroit Lakes, MN, Vivian and John Foldenaur of Andover, MN; along with many nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts, and cousins. Tim was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Barbara and Wayne Hudson, his paternal grandparents, Blanche and Robert Brackin; his father-in-law, Darrell Smith and brother-in-law, Jerry Mumm; and Uncles: Larry and Jerry Hudson and Ben Brackin.
